The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) of Major League Soccer (MLS) is reaping the benefits of signing Son Heung-min.

John Soarington, co-chairman and general manager of LAFC, revealed in an interview with British TalkSport on the 15th (Korean time) that “Son Heung-min‘s jersey was the best-selling jersey across all sports worldwide for a week.”

He added, “Since signing with LAFC, we have sold more jerseys than any other athlete in the world,” and “Not only football players such as Lionel Messi (Miami) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr), but also athletes from other sports such as LeBron James (LA Lakers) and Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) have sold fewer jerseys than Son Heung-min.”

LAFC signed Son Heung-min for a record-breaking transfer fee of $26.5 million (approximately 36.8 billion won) on the 7th.

Despite only being a week since his signing, the jersey sales have already surpassed those of Lionel Messi, who represents the world of soccer, as well as NBA superstars, clearly demonstrating Son Heung-min‘s “commercial value.”

LAFC ticket prices have also skyrocketed.

According to Talk Sports, tickets for Son Heung-min‘s home debut match against San Diego on the 31st have surged from $300 to $1500 (approximately 2.08 million won).

손흥민, 메시·호날두 제쳤다…유니폼 판매 전세계 1위



미국프로축구(MLS) 로스앤젤레스FC(LAFC)가 손흥민 영입 효과를 톡톡히 보고 있다.

존 소링턴 LAFC 공동 회장 겸 단장은 15일(한국시간) 공개된 영국 토크스포츠 인터뷰를 통해 “손흥민의 유니폼은 한 주 동안 전 세계 모든 종목에 걸쳐 가장 많이 판매됐다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “LAFC 계약 때부터 지금까지 세계 어떤 스포츠 선수보다 많은 유니폼을 판매했다”면서 “리오넬 메시(마이애미)와 크리스티아누 호날두(알나스르) 등 축구 선수는 물론이고 르브론 제임스(LA 레이커스), 스테픈 커리(골든스테이트 워리어스) 등 다른 종목 선수 유니폼보다 많이 팔렸다”고 덧붙였다.

지난 7일 LAFC는 MLS 역대 최고 이적료인 2650만 달러(약 368억원)에 손흥민을 영입했다.

영입 1주일간의 유니폼 판매량이지만 손흥민은 세계 축구를 대표하는 메시는 물론, 미국프로농구(NBA)의 슈퍼스타들보다도 많은 유니폼을 팔아치워 자신의 ‘상업적 가치’를 입증했다.

LAFC 티켓 가격도 크게 올랐다.

오는 31일 열리는 손흥민의 홈 데뷔전인 샌디에이고전 티켓값은 300달러에서 1500달러(약 208만원)로 치솟았다고 토크스포츠는 전했다.
